VB-Audio Setup For Interview Excelerator

March 24, 2024 • Audio

This guide is intended to help you setup VB-Audio so that you can use the audio going into your pc as the input device for the software I made called Interview Excelerator. This can also be a useful guide if you want to use computer output audio as input audio for other applications as well.

Installation and Setup

  1. First step is to download the program, you can do it here https://vb-audio.com/Cable/.
  2. Once you download it you want to open your sound control panel.
    • Under the Recording tab, find the CABLE Output VB-Audio cable
    • Right click it and open properties
    • In the listen tab, enable "listen to this device", and make the playback trhough this device drop down the device you use to listen to audio.
  3. If you follow the steps above you now have a virtual input device that other programs can use to listen to your computer audio as if it were input from a microphone.
  4. Check the next section to see what is needed to be gathered in order for my Interview Excelerator software to work properly with VB-Audio.

Getting The Device ID of VB-Audio

This is needed for Interview Excelerator, without setting the proper device id then you won't be able to record audio. Once you have completed the step above and have you Interview Excelerator app open, follow the steps below.

  1. Open the settings.
  2. Click on the "View input_device ID's" button to get the ID's of your audio devices.
  3. You'll see a bunch, for me when I do it, the device ID and name for CABLE Output is "CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual " `(device_index=2)`"
  4. Once you get the id, in my case it is 2, you then want to put that value in the Input Device ID field in the settings and click submit.
  5. Now go back to the main window and try it out, if you followed all the steps correctly it should work perfectly!
